Lodi, CA (July 23, 2024) – According to authorities, a man was found dead, and a woman was rescued in a house fire on Tuesday, July 23.
The Lodi Fire Department said that crews responded to the one-story residence on Magnolia Court near Hawthorne Lane around 5:00 p.m. for the report of a structure fire. Authorities added that an older woman had been rescued from the house and taken to San Joaquin General Hospital. A man was found in the back room of the house, but he died from his injuries at the site.
The fire department said the flames extended to the ceiling and attic, but the fire was contained to the two rooms of origin. The fire department said no other injuries were reported, though witnesses were asked to contact police if they had additional information. The fire department is investigating what happened before the blaze, and authorities did not release further details in the interim.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man’s loved ones. Our thoughts are with the injured woman and her family members in hopes of her full recovery.
Residential Fires in California
Typically, a fire that destroys your house, place of business, or other property is financially, physically, and emotionally taxing. Fires often result in serious injuries, property losses, and even fatalities. Extensive fire damage may sometimes result in a family home’s destruction. The first step in rebuilding after a fire damages your house or place of business is to claim with your insurance company to have your losses covered. But what happens if your insurance company refuses to pay for the replacement of your house and belongings or if a negligent property manager or owner is responsible for your damages?
Anybody who owns, rents, occupies, or controls any property in California is considered negligent if they do not maintain the property reasonably safe, per state law. For instance, according to California’s premises liability rules, businesses have to take reasonable precautions to identify potentially dangerous conditions and replace, correct, or provide sufficient notice of hazards to visitors.
