Lathrop, CA (October 17, 2024) – The driver and the passenger of a car died in a crash north of Tracy on Thursday afternoon, October 17, officials said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:20 p.m. on Tracy Boulevard, south of Clifton Court in San Joaquin County. A 39-year-old man driving a Subaru crossed the double yellow lines for an unknown reason, crashing head-on with a Mercedes in the opposite direction, CHP said.

The two men in the Mercedes sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, officials confirmed. The Subaru driver sustained minor injuries and was arrested before he was taken to a local hospital. CHP has not shared the citations or charges the driver is facing, and they are yet to identify the crash victims. Southbound Tracy Boulevard was closed at Clifton Court for a few hours due to the investigation. The road has since been reopened, but officials have asked anyone with information about this crash to contact the Tracy CHP office in the meantime.

We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victims’ loved ones. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.

Major Car Accidents in California

Due to its concentrated population and congested highways, Sacramento should be more concerned with traffic safety, according to accident statistics. Unfortunately, auto accidents are common across Sacramento and the surrounding urban areas. Possessing this information regarding major and minor highway collisions will assist in shedding light on the greater Sacramento region’s alarmingly high accident rate. Tragically, a significant proportion of these collisions result in fatalities or, more severely, severe injuries to all parties involved.

Driving through Southern California can be both exhilarating and daunting. As the capital of California, Sacramento particularly functions as a significant hub for transportation, commerce, and travel. Even though the city maintains traffic with an extensive network of thoroughfares and roads, they may become congested during rush hour. Sacramento cars must share the road with thousands of other vehicles while exercising caution and vigilance.
