Modesto, CA (April 18, 2024) – A man was hit and killed by a car near Highway 99 near Modesto on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP says the man was walking along the east shoulder of Highway 99 near Hatch Road to the center median and was hit by a Volvo sedan driving northbound on the highway around 3:30 p.m. The man was pushing a bicycle when he was struck, per CHP troopers. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Volvo driver was not injured in the crash. Two lanes of the highway were closed while an investigation began. The investigation is ongoing, and CHP officials say they’re unsure if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. No other information is available at this time.
