[12-18-2024] – Walter Alfredo Castillo, 65, Killed in Pedestrian Crash with San Francisco Police Vehicle near Bayshore Blvd, Industrial St

San Francisco, CA ‒ On Saturday, December 14, 2024, a tragic incident occurred when 65-year-old Walter Alfredo Castillo of San Francisco was struck and fatally injured by a vehicle driven by an on-duty police officer. The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that this heartbreaking accident happened in the Bernal Heights neighborhood, close to the intersection of Bayshore Boulevard and Industrial Street, at around 6:20 AM.

Following the collision, Castillo was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility to receive urgent care for his injuries. Unfortunately, despite the dedicated efforts of medical professionals, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The police officer involved in the incident fortunately did not sustain any injuries during the crash. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified Castillo on the following Tuesday, December 17.

The San Francisco Police Department’s traffic investigations unit is continuing to investigate this fatal pedestrian collision, having been the first responders on the scene.
