Sacramento, CA (May 24, 2024) – Troopers with the California Highway Patrol reported that a child who was rescued from the scene of a major collision on Thursday along the Capital City Freeway has died at the hospital. According to the CHP, the crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. when a man in his 30s was traveling on State Route 51 close to Watt Avenue and crashed.

Upon the arrival of police, the car was fully engulfed in flames, and officers extricated a seriously injured child, a girl of unknown age before EMTs rushed her to an area hospital. Local news footage showed smoke rising from the vehicle near the Fulton Avenue, Auburn Boulevard, and Marconi Avenue exits. The child was pronounced dead on Thursday, though no details about the other victims’ conditions were released. However, investigators urged anybody with information about the fatal collision to contact the CHP.
