Sacramento, CA (October 14, 2024) – Troopers with the California Highway Patrol stated that a head-on car crash in Sutter County early on Sunday morning, October 13, injured one driver and claimed the life of a Marysville woman.
A Chrysler Pacifica was reported to be traveling the wrong way—southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 99—at about 2:30 a.m. Officers were alerted to a multi-vehicle collision south of Howsley Road minutes later. When CHP arrived, they discovered that the Chrysler had collided head-on with a GMC Denali.
A 46-year-old man was taken to the hospital after suffering serious injuries, while a 25-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. However, further information regarding the accident has not been disclosed; investigators urged anybody with information about the fatal collision to contact the CHP.
Our deepest condolences are with the deceased woman’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his loved ones at this time. We hope for his complete recovery.
Wrong-Way Accidents in California
Generally, the surrounding circumstances of a wrong-way crash, like the high speed of the vehicles involved, often make these collisions even more devastating than the average vehicle accident, even though they are rare. Wrong-way collisions account for less than one-tenth of a single percent of total highway collisions. With that said, these incidents are on the rise throughout the Golden State. Moreover, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), nearly half of wrong-way accidents occur as the result of a drunk or otherwise intoxicated motorist getting behind the wheel.
