West Sacramento, CA (October 18, 2024) – Firefighters responding to a brush fire in West Sacramento ran over two people, killing one person and injuring another, the police department said.
Crews were responding to the report of a brush fire along the railroad tracks in the 500 block of Jefferson Boulevard around 11:00 a.m. on October 18, using a spotter to guide them through a debris-strewn area. Authorities say a brush truck then drove over a carpet on a dirt trail, and two people were later found under the carpet.
The incident is believed to have resulted in the death of a male and serious injuries to a female individual, the West Sacramento Police Department confirmed. The injured female was taken to UC Davis Medical Center and is in stable condition, officials said. The fire department personnel involved in the accident will be on paid administrative leave, the police department further added. Officers have not released any other details, though anyone with information regarding the collision was asked to call local officials as the officers’ inquiry proceeded.
