Vacaville, CA (July 12, 2024) – The California Highway Patrol reported that a Vacaville police officer was killed after being hit by a vehicle while making a traffic stop on Thursday morning, police said. The driver was taken into custody and believed to be under the influence of drugs.
According to CHP troopers, officers responded to the crash just before 10:30 a.m. The intersection of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive was closed while officers investigated, police added. CHP said the driver of the vehicle that struck the officer tried to flee from the crash scene but was stopped by bystanders who witnessed the crash. The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, though no further details were reported in the interim. The incident is still under investigation in the meantime.
