Williams, CA – A devastating single-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 resulted in the death of a 72-year-old man from San Francisco on Sunday afternoon, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident took place around 1 p.m. on the northbound lane of I-5 at the Husted Road offramp, located just south of Williams.
Authorities indicate that the driver of a Toyota Highlander veered off onto the right shoulder, but the reasons for this deviation are still being explored. In trying to regain control, the driver overcorrected, causing the SUV to roll over and come to rest back on the freeway.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and CHP officers, arrived swiftly at the scene to provide urgent care to both the driver and a passenger. They were both transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical team, the 72-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the passenger is currently unknown.
Authorities have confirmed that DUI is not suspected to be a factor in this unfortunate event. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to uncover the precise cause of the accident.
