Escondido, CA – A rollover incident attributed to suspected DUI occurred on Sunday morning, resulting in injuries on State Route 78 near Centre City Parkway, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The incident took place around 11:04 a.m., involving a red SUV and a black sedan.
According to authorities, the SUV overturned before returning to its wheels on the right shoulder embankment. Emergency personnel promptly arrived at the scene and found one individual trapped inside one of the vehicles.
Firefighters undertook efforts to rescue the victim, which included cutting through roughly 30 feet of chain-link fencing to gain access. Paramedics provided treatment for at least one person who sustained minor injuries in the collision.
Authorities have indicated that DUI played a role in the accident, although more details regarding the responsible driver have yet to be disclosed. In light of the incident, Escondido police temporarily shut down the onramps from Centre City Parkway to both eastbound and westbound SR-78 while cleanup efforts were in progress.
