Bell, CA – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a construction worker who tragically lost his life over the weekend after being hit by a truck operated by a colleague in the city of Bell.
The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Gage and Heliotrope avenues, where the victim was engaged in welding metal in the street. According to Bell police Sgt. Johnnie Walker, the worker was struck by the construction truck and unfortunately died at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has identified the deceased as 57-year-old Jose Arias Barrientos, a resident of Los Angeles. Following the incident, the co-worker who was driving the truck remained at the location and provided authorities with a statement before being released. Sgt. Walker mentioned that the circumstances suggested it was an accident.
In addition to local law enforcement, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health also arrived to assess the situation and began an investigation, as reported by Walker.
