Modesto, CA — The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the man who tragically lost his life on Tuesday evening, December 10, 2024. He has been identified as 59-year-old Robert Frost, a resident of Modesto. This information was reported by The Modesto Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the fatal incident occurred at approximately 6:30 PM on South Ninth Street, just south of River Road. According to authorities, Frost was lying in the left lane when he was struck by a Fiat sedan driven by a 47-year-old woman heading southbound.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene but, unfortunately, pronounced Frost deceased. The driver of the Fiat, whose identity has not been disclosed, was unharmed and stayed at the scene to assist investigators. CHP has also stated that there is no evidence suggesting the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
While the Coroner’s Office has confirmed Frost’s identity, they have not released information regarding the reasons he was lying in the roadway prior to the collision. Investigators are currently examining whether the impact from the vehicle directly caused his death or if other underlying factors played a role.
As a result of the investigation, southbound Ninth Street was temporarily closed at River Road. Officers with the CHP continued to examine the circumstances around the incident, which remains under review.
