Mecca, CA – A tragic accident on Friday night claimed the life of a 51-year-old woman in a two-vehicle crash caused by a driver going the wrong way. Authorities reported that two other people suffered moderate injuries from the collision.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Highway 86, close to 66th Avenue, as detailed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). According to the CHP officers, a black Chrysler was traveling in the wrong direction when it struck a white Honda Civic. Unfortunately, the driver of the Honda Civic did not survive.
The 20-year-old male operator of the Chrysler has been arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, while his 18-year-old female passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Reports indicate that the male driver also sustained slight injuries.
On Saturday, the Riverside County coroner’s office identified the deceased victim as Shuru Zhang from La Puente. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing as CHP continues to gather information.
