Fresno County, California – After the unfortunate accident on November 26, 2024, the future of 16-year-old Trevyn Mackey’s recovery remains uncertain. “It’s a punch in the gut,” expressed Eric Brown, Mackey’s uncle and football coach at Clovis West High School. “That was really hard when everybody got the news about what happened.”
The Mackey family is still trying to piece together the details surrounding the incident, but they emphasize that the last few days have been critical for Trevyn’s recovery. “He is still sedated and sleeping,” Brown elaborated. “He’s shown some good signs. Able to open his eyes a little bit last night. He’s not responsive to us yet, but that’s all part of the process as he heals.”
At Clovis West, the 16-year-old plays football under his uncle’s guidance. Brown describes Mackey as more than just a talented athlete. “When Trev walks into the room, he definitely lights it up. Loves music, especially rap music. Really passionate about football, his family, his friends,” he noted.
The family has created a GoFundMe page that, as of Monday afternoon, has raised nearly $40,000. They are thankful for the tremendous support from the community. “I’ve had almost every coach in the area reach out and say they’re praying for him, and whatever we need, they’ve got us,” Brown stated.
Currently, the family is unsure how long Trevyn’s recovery will take. A message from his mother on the GoFundMe reads, in part: “This guy loves sunrises and sunsets, so today, as you go about your day, take a moment at sunset and say an extra prayer of healing and peace for this special guy.”
